10 Minute Guide to Learning How To Play Texas Hold’em Poker
How to play:
- Before any cards are dealt the 2 players to the left of the dealer need to get the action started by putting in blind bets. The player next to the dealer bets the small blind, the player next to him bets the big blind. (whats a blind?)
- Each player is dealt 2 cards which no one else sees. These cards are called pocket or hole cards. (Best and worst Poker pocket cards)
- The game starts with the first player to the left of the big blind. The will either bet, raise or fold depending on how good they feel their hand is. The movement of play continues clockwise around the table.
- Once the first round of betting is complete, 3 cards are dealt, face up in the centre of the table. These cards are called community cards and all players can use these cards to make up the best 5 card hand. The first 3 community cards that are dealt are called community cards.
- Once the flop is deals everyone will have a better idea of how strong their hand is, and another round of betting starts. This starts with the player directly to the left of the dealer. This player can either check or bet.
- Once this round of betting is complete another commuinity card is dealt, this is called the turn (or fourth street)
- Next another round of betting takes place (well this is gabeling after all!)
- After this betting is complete a 5th community card is dealt, this is called the river (or fifth street)
- A final round of betting takes place, again starting with the player directly to the left of the dealer.
- Once this betting is complete all remaining players show their cards and the player who makes the best 5 card hand combining their pocket cards and community cards wins the pot. Sometimes the 5 community cards actually make up the best 5 card hand and beat all player and their pocket cards, if this happens the pot is divided equally between all players still in the hand.
